Preparatory School/Kindergarten
« on: Monday 10 May 21 02:30 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on a preparatory school/kindergarten that I attended in the late 1940's.  My mother called it "Guthlick House" but I have no idea if that is a correct spelling or even if my translation of what my mother said is correct.
I have a reasonably strong feeling that it was conducted in a large house on Coleshill Road, Castle Bromwich in Birmingham.
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Robert

Welcome to Rootschat Robert  :D

I couldn't see anything on the 1939 Register for Coleshill Road that may have been a school.  A bit of googling has come up with a possible means of finding out more.

If you have a facebook account you may be able to find someone who can tell you more or point you in the right direction.

Or you could try contacting the Warwickshire Records Office and see if they can assist in any way.

There used to be a preparatory school called Amberley Preparatory School at 70 Coleshill Road, Ward End which is just further up the road from Castle Bromwich. If you Google the name of the school it gives some details...

Unfortunately it looks as though Amberley is not the place I attended - the stripes on the ties go the wrong way!
I have attached the only physical record of my attendance. My guess is that it was taken about 1950. The stamp on the back says "Photograph by G Douglas Morris, 8 Washwood Heath Road, Birmingham 8 Negative Number 338.  I have been unable to find any record of this photographer

That's annoying! I know the Coleshill Road, Castle Bromwich well but I have no memory of a  'Guthlick House' . I wonder if it might be worth contacting the Birmingham Mail newspaper they have a letters page, it covers a wide area and someone might remember the school. The email address will be online.

I can't see Guthlick House mentioned here, but there may be some useful info which prompts some memories!
