Trying to trace Mary Prickett’s family Liverpool
« on: Monday 17 May 21 22:56 BST (UK) »
Hi. Mary Prickett married Joseph Bamber at Holy Trinity church in Liverpool in 1831. I would like to trace her family line before her marriage. Can anyone help please.

On the marriage record Mary is noted as of the parish of Liverpool, this is also on the 1851/1861 census returns, she is a widow by 1861 with her daughter Mary. There was a son John in 1841 but not after. Going by the ages on each return Mary was born between 1809 and 1816.
Sadly I cannot find a record.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

In the 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses her birthplace is shown as Kendal, Westmorland. Born circa 1804-1808.

On Family Search the 1861 census in Liverpool there are two Mary Bamber’s

The one I thought was married to Joseph is noted as age 47 (1814) Widow, Charwoman, a Visitor, born Liverpool. I believe her daughter Mary is with her, she is noted as age 21 General Servant but no relationship mentioned to the other Mary, so I may be wrong?

However Mary junior did not marry Peter Johnson until 1868, soat the age of 15 where was she?

John BAMBER   Baptism   10 Nov 1832   Lancashire   Liverpool : St Philip : Unspecified
John BAMBER   Baptism   28 Nov 1832   Lancashire   Liverpool : St Peter : Unspecified
Both above on freereg give same information.Parents Joseph a Coachman & Mary abode Roscoe Street,

birth
BAMBER, MARY  ANN  mmn   PRICKET
GRO Reference: 1846  D Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 20  Page 547

death
BAMBER, JOHN       18
GRO Reference: 1850  D Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 20  Page 346

death
BAMBER, JOSEPH       47
GRO Reference: 1852  J Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 08B  Page 125

The other Mary posted by ShaunJ in 1861 on Family Search is age  56 (1805), widow born Hundall, Westmorland

Which given the later census returns I think is probably the correct one, albeit strange that earlier information suggests born Liverpool.

Either way still no birth record for Mary Prickett?

Coirrection more than one Mary Prickett born in Westmoreland 1807 - 1808.

See family search, example below but there are others.

Second record for the above notes it as Kendal.

I am wondering if Mary was enumerated twice in 1861, both by the Drapers and by the Jarvis family.

Possible baptism in Kendal: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N1GN-KS7

I was going  to post about the two earlier and then saw later censuses.

Hannah Bamber, father Robert Bamber , married Henry Draper in 1856.
I think mother in law Mary Bamber is with the Drapers in later years.

Hi Folks. Thanks for the interesting info. In my research Mary I thought was born in west Moreland There was also a mention of John as a first child but I didn’t get any further on that. Joseph her husband was indeed a coachman and Mary junior was born in 1846 as mentioned. It is Mary Bamber nee Prickett I am most interested in as we have no information about her before her wedding. On their wedding record Mary could not sign her name as it mentions the mark of Mary Prickett. Witnesses to the marriage are John Walker and it looks like ? Beatty.
Thanks everyone. Be interesting if anyone can dig up more info.
