Peter Connell Cloonkeen D 1883
« on: Wednesday 19 May 21 18:14 BST (UK) »
Hello

Peter Connell Died 6th July 1883, he lived in Cloonkeen, Galway.  He died at the age of 70 so, I assume he was born around 1813.  I have the death register document but no birth documents.

I am also unable to find records at all for a wife and/or his marriage.  He has 3 children Mary Connell born 1830, Julia B 1836, James 1841.  Peter Connell is my 4th Gt Grandfather.  The mother is proving elusive, due to the year of birth of the children.  Rendering it very difficult to find any paperwork at all.  I do not have access to Roots Ireland, only Irishgeneology and scoured that to no avail.

Can anyone help at all with finding his wife?  or possibly details of Peter Connell birth.  I have emailed the Cloonkeen Heritage society, still waiting a response - thank you in advance

Did James marry?
Possibility here for Peter’s wife - informant Mary, daughter in law

Thank you, that looks promising.  Can I ask how you did the search?  Becuase I would not know when she died if that makes sense

Here is Peter - you have a link but here is an easier one
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1883/06350/4821696.pdf

I just then looked at deaths in Glenamaddy district of older women  :)

I think that is probably right -
James’s marriage https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1881/11004/8023355.pdf

1901 census - http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Cloonkeen/Cloonkeen_Waldron/1379819/

Does that look right?

Apologies for repetition.

all the above documents I have apart from who is wife was.  So i will use the registration for the Mary and try and find out her maiden name (unlikely) and her birth (even more unlikely.  Its difficult when the children are pre the records of Irishgeneology

THank you both :-)

That is the death registration so there is no maiden name shown.

This is the parish , I think, https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0326

Baptism records don’t start until 1841 so James might miss out. I have looked on an index on Ancestry (FindMyPast) also has one but I can’t see any Connell baptisms.

Guess I will be busy going through this lot tonight lol   Thank you so much I was getting confused a lot with the Townlands some sounding familiar and also Connell is such a common name plus repetative first names its a minefield

I noticed a published tree with very little information re Connells.
The only information mentions a marriage for Bridget Connell 1871.

I have looked it up and here she is with father Peter of Cloonkeen   :)
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1871/11337/8160978.pdf

The interesting thing is that she was 20 yrs old so born abt 1851 but the sad thing is that there are gaps in those baptisms on the parish site and there are no marriages which might give mother’s name  ::)

By the way, are you the same person with two accounts? It is confusing.
