Hoping someone can give me some direction.
I know my long deceased grandparents were married in Gateshead in 1923, however i can't locate the venue. Unfortunately the local registry office are working on priority registrations at the moment, so requesting a family search or copy certificate (unless for legal reasons) is not an option. Are there any other online resources I could utilise. I have access to Ancestry. Thank is advance.

Try the local Council online records of Churches, in my area when a church was demolished the records went to the town’s records office I feel pretty sure
Have you an address ,not very often people left their parishes to marry as fees were involved .
Best of luck.Viktoria.

The other alternative is to purchase the marriage certificate from GRO.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

You didn't give names so we can't look for you, but if you want the cert, search marriages on FreeBMD

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
You will get a reference which would help you to order a copy marriage certificate from the GRO

On FreeBMD specify Marriages, put in the surname and first name of the Groom and Bride, limit the time frame to 1923 and you will get results that shows Surname, First Name, Spouse Surname, District, Vol and Page

That info is what you use to place an order at
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Cost is £11 and takes around a week or so to arrive by post.

If you can't find the reference, tell us the names and we'll see if we can help

Boo

That is the most direct way ,I wondered if they were working normally ,I think local records may not be affected by the current situation ,but it is a think by no means a certainty.
