My great-grandmother, Catherine McGillivray, was born on 20 October 1854 in Daviot and Dunlichity, Inverness-Shire.
She had two illegitimate children (that I have found so far !!!), my grandfather, James Fraser McGillivray, born 1875, in Daviot and Dunlichity, and Maggie Ann Kelly McGillivray, born 1884, in 28 Fraser's Buildings, Pilmuir, Forres.
Catherine went on to marry a George Ironside, on 14 March 1890 at 328 High Street, Forres.
On the 1891 census, Catherine is living at 33 Urquhart Street, Forres, with Maggie Ann, but no mention of George Ironside.
Where did he disappear to?
Strangely, Catherine seems to have hooked up with a bloke called Charles Fraser, who died on 20 August 1900. She seems to have taken his name when she bought him a lair in Sandymount Cemetery, Glasgow. When she made that purchase, she gave her address as 20 Brown Street, Glasgow, which was just along the street from where my grandfather was living (James Fraser McGillivray).
After then my great-grandmother calls herself Catherine Fraser, and continues to live in Glasgow until her death in 1918.

But where did George Ironside disappear to?

Yes, I agree. On the 1891 census that I downloaded from SP, Catherine Ironside states that she is married, age 45, born Daviot, Inverness-Shire.
Also in the household is her daughter, Maggie Kelly, age 6, scholar, born Forres, Elgin-Shire.
They are both living at 33 Urquhart Street, Forres.

No mention of George Ironside.

George Ironside is not mentioned on her death certificate.
She calls herself Catherine Fraser, and states that she is the widow of Charles Fraser - but I can't find any marriage record for them, so I think it was just "common law".
Her death is registered by my grandmother, who would have been her daughter-in-law.
In the lair that Catherine bought for her common law husband, Charles Fraser, also lies, herself, plus three infants that my grandparents had.

She says she is 26 - birthyear 1864 - his is 1863

Both mothers were maiden name Grant but can't see an Ironside/Grant marriage on SP.

Only one 1871 entry for a George Ironside with parents James & Jane but he was b 1869 Aberdeenshire

No George Ironside deaths with an 1862- 1866 birthyear
