Looking for Michael Bain
« on: Friday 28 May 21 12:01 BST (UK) »

Hello everyone, I am trying to find any information on Great Great Grandfather Michael Bain. All I have is his death certificate from South Africa which states he was born in Tipperary around 1814 to Joseph Bain. He went to South Africa somewhere between 1820 and 1844. He got married in Grahamstown in 1844. He may have had a sister Elizabeth Bain

Not that I know of. There were other Bains in South Africa but not related ( as far as I can tell)

The reference for his age and birthplace comes from the death certificate.

Is the marriage year and place also taken from the death certificate?

Do you have the marriage certificate?

Why is 1820 a possible reference to him being in South Africa?.

Span 1820-1844 is the difference between him arriving as a child, or as an adult, so it would be useful to narrow this range.

Can you give all the information on the death certificate please.

The reason I picked 1820 as there was a big drive that year to get people to South Africa.
Unfortunately I have no other info, not even hand me down word of mouth.

I tried attaching the wedding and death cert but they are too large so I will transcribe them.
