I am trying to identify an Alexa Mearns but I'm struggling and I hope someone might be able to help. She may have come from the Montrose area and was apparently one of six children. She might have been born around 1921. It would seem that she married a George Duell of Aberdeen and I can find two children as a result of that marriage, one in 1943 and the other in 1945. The birth certificate from 1943 quotes the father as George Duell, Craftsman 3313933 REME and the mother as "Alexa Anderson Duell" formerly Mearns, living in Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland. I can't find a birth record for Alexa and I can't find any marriage records. Can anyone help please?

Have you looked at the deaths on Scotlands People?

She seems to be under various names but always with mmn DURIE and ref:
2009 484/ 68 Grangemouth

You probably had this already. :)

Scotland's People has the birth registration of an -
Alexa Anderson Mearns, 1921, Montrose. However, it is flagged "Certificates not available".

Thank you so much Maureen and Hanes.

I didn't have those details, I'm not familiar with Scotland's People.

Very much appreciated.

Kind regards.

Hi C.J. Some information from me as follows (All from Scotlandspeople Index)

Alexa Anderson Mearns birth in 1921 - Montrose - Ref 312/150
Alexa Anderson Mearns marriage to George Duell in 1941 - Montrose - Ref 312/55
Alexa Anderson Mearns marriage to Walter Mather in 1947 - Morningside, Edinburgh - Ref 685/7 76
Alexa Anderson Mearns/Mather - death in 2009 - Grangemouth - Ref 484/68 - mothers maiden name of Durie.

Her Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate to Walter Mather and her Death Certificate would have to be ordered from Scotlands People at a cost of approximately £12 each + Postage.

However her Marriage Certificate to George Duell is available to download/view at Scotlandspeople at a minimal cost.

I cannot find a death for George Duell in Scotland or on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
between 1941 and her remarriage in 1947. This would lead me to believe that there was a divorce. The 1941 Marriage Certificate would have a note on the left hand corner to confirm this.

There are also a couple of trees on Ancestry with her name and listing 2 sons and 2 daughters but no details as they are still living.

If I can help further with anything please PM me,

Dorrie

Thank you so much for all that information Dorrie. I've gone through everything and it all seems to fit in.

George Duell seems to be quite an elusive character though. I'm struggling to identify him with any certainty. I've registered on Scotland's People so I'll try and get the digital copy of the marriage to Alexa and hopefully that will give me some more information. I'm trying to follow his military service line as well but that is proving difficult too.

Kind regards.
