There is a report in the Leicester Chronicle on 9th November 1872, regarding a robbery from a shop in the Market Place. George and Mary Watts were charged with stealing babys' cloaks, the property of Cornwell and Co. etc.
William B Marshall said the cloaks produced were worth £6 5s. 8d.

A lot of advertisements in the papers for Cornwell and Co. for childrens' and ladies clothing.

One in 1874 has

"THE BEST AND CHEAPEST STAYS AND CORSETS
are to be had at
W.B. Marshall's, (Late J. Cornwell and Co.,)
28 MARKET STREET, LEICESTER..."

Just found a Bankruptcy notice in London Gazette 1 April 1879.   I wonder how to find a follow up to this?

The Newspapers can be found on Findmypast or the British Newspaper Archive. A subscription is needed, although free access may be available at some libraries, if open.

There is quite a lot about the sale of goods at 28 Market Place in 1879, particularly the sale of stock after having sold the premises - e.g. Leicester Journal 14 February 1879

Leicester Journal 10 January 1879 mentions that the sale was "in consequence of his having purchased a large business at Hastings."

Leicester Journal 25 April 1879 re the bankruptcy
