Ann Stephens - child actress

Ann Stephens has been an ongoing mystery for many years.  Can anyone in the US help with any possible marriage/death, or any other useful information for her please? 

Ann Gillian Stephens was born in England on 21st May 1931 to parents Lucian and Kathleen Stephens nee Blake.

The last positive piece of information is that Ann went to the US in 1959.  The travel manifest says that the Parthia left Liverpool on 11th April 1959 bound for New York.  Ann's address at the time of leaving the UK was 8 Chepstow Man.(Mansions), Bayswater, London W2.  Her occupation was given as Air Hostess.  It is thought that she worked for Pan Am Airlines.

Ann may have lived in Los Angeles at some point as her younger sister married there in 1967.  Not been able to locate an image for this marriage which was found on Family Search.  It is thought that this sister (born 1934) is still alive as there does not appear to be any death registered for her in the UK.  The sister was last known to be living in the county of Devon, UK.

Ann's mother died in 1995 and her last will dated 1984 does not mention Ann at all, so the assumption is that Ann was dead by then.

The topic was originally started in 2011, resurrected in 2014 and again in March 2021.

If anyone can find any information on Ann after 1959 that would be great.

The sister is your best lead. The lady you refer to in the west country is still alive, and cannot be named on Rootschat. Now has a double barrelled name on the electorals, and an address you can write to?
It seems that may be the best bet.

Having checked something different I can see what you found jon.  Have to think about writing as she will be in her eighties.  Could consider writing to the other occupant.  I'll have to see if I can get an idea of the age of the other occupant.

Thanks for that link Genealiza.  This information has been mentioned before but no proof of this date has been found.

It is not known whether Ann married or not.  As I stated, the last definite information is that she went to the USA in 1959 and her occupation was Air Hostess.

From there on her life is a complete mystery.

I see, that the confusion is on her date of death.  I believe I've followed the husband of her younger sister.  There is a private tree on Anc....  Townsend Family Tree, that might have more on this husband and possibly his wife.

The husband of the younger sister was a John Byron Sledge who died in Devon in 1989.  Does that name appear on the Townsend family tree that you mention is on Ancestry?

I don't have a sub to Ancestry so can't check anything. 

It is thought that his wife is still alive as no death has been found for her.

Yes, he was born 7 Jun 1924 in Ada, Oklahoma to John B Sledge and wife, Mary/Mollie.

It appears that they were married in Los Angeles, 5 Aug 1967

His death not only appears on the UK death index, but also the US Social Security Death Index as,

Another thought, John has a sister, Dr. Claire Blount Sledge.  She dies in 1991 and mentions that she was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John.  I believe her obit shows up in several places.  Since they were from Ada, Oklahoma, you might request an obit look-up for John circa Feb 1989 and see if his wife is mentioned.
