Welcome to Rootschat!   ;D

Do you have his marriage certificate? It should give the name and occupation of his father. You can buy it from the GRO

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

and the ref is Thomas Hobson sept qtr 1916 Aberayron vol 11b pg 58

The marriage was to Mary A Jones and the mother's maiden name on the birth reg of Mary Hopson in 1926 is Jones.

There is a possible 1891 for a Thomas Hobson of around the right age

Thomas Hobson

Age:21Birth Date:1857
Marriage Date:02 May 1878 Oswestry, Shropshire, England
Father:Richard Hobson
Spouse:Sarah Davies
Father Richard Davies

You need to work back from what you already have to be sure these are the right family. Don't take it for granted, with the spelling difference especially.

that looks to be the correct marriage for the family in a caravan in Llanstephan in 1891. Thomas is noted as a hawker on the parish entry as was his father Richard. Sarah's father was a labourer. Witnesses Absolom & Harriet Evans.

The 1916 marriage cert is needed to confirm that the father of Thomas was the Thomas who was the basket maker/hawker or someone else.

Looks to be the same Thomas Hobson in 1915:

Llanfihangel-ar-Arth WEDNESDAY, March 31st.—Before Messrs. Ben Davies (chairman), W. Griffiths, T. R. Jones. CAMPING ON THE HIGHWAY. Thomas Hobson, travelling hawker, was summoned for camping on the highway near Brynteify on Sunday, February 28th, and thereby causing an obstruction. Defendant did not appear, but a letter from him was received that morning enclosing 5s., which defendant hoped would be sufficient to meet the case. Fined 2s. and costs.

Another from 1879.  Quite possibly Thomas' father who originally came from Shrewsbury, married Sarah Davies in Oswestry then moved further south to Aberaeron via Machynlleth.

Machynlleth Petty Sessions
Highway Offences.-Thomas Hobson, hawker, late of Cemmaes was fined 10s., including costs, for having allowed horses to stray.-

Another one from 1909, spelling Hopson:

LLANILAR PETTY SESSIONS. . G. Morris Davies, Mr. n. E. Jones, and Dr. R. D Roberts. Camping on the Highway. Ben Jones (junr.), Llangadock, Carmarthenshire, travelling hawker, and Thomas Hopson, Llanidloes, Mont., travelling hawker, were each separately charged by Supt. Jones with having encamped on part of a certain highway at Rhosfawr, Llanychaiarn on the 27th ult.—Defendants did not appear, but had sent a letter.—P.O. Lewis, Llanychaiarn, said that about 8.30 p.m. on the date in question the defendant, Thomas Hopson, had a four-wheeled van, and the defendant Ben Jones a two-wheeled spring -cart on the highway by Rhosfawr. Behind the spring cart a tent had also been pitched, witness advised them to clear away, but defendants defied anyone to clear them away, and they remained there until the next morning.-Each defendant was fined 5s. including costs.
