Shouldn't think so Carol. My Great Uncle was a Bandmaster in the South Wales Borderers. He was English, born in Aldershot.

Hi Carol,  I think the real answer to this is no.  You joined the Army and then were posted to a Regiment, which ever one needed men.

carol,you will find that the SWB had a few cheshire lads in the ranks,but when you enlist you can join any regt you want,if you are conscripted you go where your told,up till 1881 the SWB regt was an english regt,they were originally the 2nd warwickshire regt,mack
military history,mainly ww1,manchester pals battalions,tyneside irish +tyneside scottish brigades,leeds,liverpool,accrington,birmingham,hull,barnsley,swansea and salford pals.
