Death place of Richard HINGSTON, died October 1906
« on: Sunday 20 June 21 03:48 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Richard HINGSTON was born circa 1833 in France and arrived in New Zealand in December 1868 per Alhambra from Melbourne as an Armed Constabulary recruit. He was discharged in October 1869.

He subsequently featured in New Zealand Police Gazettes with convictions and gaol time for larceny.

He doesn't appear to have married.

No mentions on Archway.

He died on 14 October 1906, however I cannot find any record of his place of death or burial.

Can anyone find where he died or was buried, please?

That's him, he had been a seaman in 1868 but was a gardener in 1889.

Brilliant, thanks very much TPB!

I'll follow up on your lead and see if Archives hold a register for the Home that mgiht mention him.

Found this with two mentions of him; his surname was also spelled as HINGSTONE.
http://www.nzpictures.co.nz/pandoraresearchHCC-28599-WgtnBenevolentInstitution.pdf

This led to this article on Papers Past:

New Zealand Times, 10 September 1900, Page 3
HER MAJESTY’S VETERANS.
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/NZTIM19000910.2.5

This is very little information about the Ohiro Benevolent home on Archway, and no Register listed.

A picture and history of the Home appears here:
https://wellington.recollect.co.nz/nodes/view/2933

Thanks again for finding him, TPB :)

ADDENDUM: The last website above shows that the Ohiro Benevolent Home was situated on what is now Ohiro Park, off Ohiro Road, Brooklyn.

Hi again Spades,
Happy to help.
If you are able to access Ancestry and type in his name under a general search you will find alot more information about him including a photo and source documents; ie birth and death entries.
