Kervin Wright, married Norwich Cathedral 1701 to Sarah Meadows
« on: Friday 25 June 21 04:12 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Where would I find an original image of this marriage? I am hoping to see Kervin's signature so that I can link him with a Kervin Wright in Shropshire.

Here is the record from FamilySearch but the film no only links to a printed transcript. I can't find anything in the FamilySearch wiki or catalogue that mentions the original registers.

I can't see the parish register for the marriage, however there is a Kervin WRIGHT, son of Kervin and Sarah baptised at Debenham, Suffolk "at Goslings Hall" on 19 Aug 1706 (non conformist) and then Kervin WRIGHT aged 55 dies in Norwich and buried at the French Church, Norwich with an inscription that reads
"An eminent Physician in this City son of the Revd Kervin Wright of Debenham in the County of Suffolk."

Not sure if this is the same couple who married in 1701, or if it helps you at all?  :-\

Hi Maddy,

Yes, this is the same couple. He was of Soham, Cambridgeshire at his marriage (according to a marriage licence index) but moved to Debenham to become an Independent (non-conformist) minister there. Sarah Meadows was the daughter of another non-conformist minister, John Meadows, of Ousden, Suffolk.

Thanks for your help,

Sue

There are no signatures on parish marriages until 1754
If the marriage was by licence, Kervin's signature would be on the bond/allegation

Kervin WRIGHT aged 55 dies in Norwich and buried at the French Church, Norwich with an inscription that reads
"An eminent Physician in this City son of the Revd Kervin Wright of Debenham in the County of Suffolk."

Norwich Consistory copy will for him here

Thanks, that is really helpful to know there are no signatures until 1754. I knew there was more information from 1754 but not that signatures only started being added then.

I have the will but will order the marriage bond.

Thanks for your help.
