Douglas Mitchell Paterson
« on: Saturday 26 June 21 18:07 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,

The above names was my dad, a joiner to trade, he was born Castle Terrace, Aberdeen in 1919. Due to my parents being divorced, I had many years without him, but eventually  found him. I know little of his younger life, he was not fit for military service WW2. I understand during the war he was employed in the making of wooden chassis for vehicles perhaps buses ?? I would love to know where he worked and indeed where he served his apprenticeship. Any help appreciated. TIA.

Did he re-marry?  If so - were any children born to the second marriage who are still alive and may be able to provide some info for you?

There is a second marriage for a Douglas Mitchell Paterson in 1979 at Martha Street, Glasgow which
could possibly be your dad.

Could also be a son, Dorrie. I saw a death in 1997 in Glasgow for someone with all three names born c. 1949-50. There is a 1949 birth for someone with that name in Aberdeen area.

unknownmale, your father married in Stirlingshire in 1944? Was this where he was living and working during those war years?

Where do you think he did his training/apprenticeship?

So Monica and unknownmale this is what we have so far.

Douglas Mitchell Paterson was born in Aberdeen in 1919.
He married for the 1st time in Denny & Dunipace, Stirlingshire in 1944.
He married for the 2nd time in Glasgow, Martha Street in 1979.
Death of a possible son in Glasgow 1997 born around 1949-1950 Aberdeen area.

If we could get confirmation that we are on the trach that would be helpful,

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused folks. No he did not remarry, there are no other family members to ask. The DMP  marriage in Martha Street, was my brother, who has passed away as has my other brother, both younger. yes that was his death in 77.  I searched for my dad from age 15, till I eventually found him aged 34,so 19 years I looked for him. We kept in touch, when he became unwell, I had him brought from England where I was able to look after him in the care home I managed until he passed away. I missed so much of him I would like to fill in some gaps if possible, thank you one and all for your input. He was there as my mother came from Denny, MonicaL I know my sister was born 1945 in Aberdeen, so not sure just prior to that. Hope that makessense. Ta.

I am so sorry for the loss of your two brothers. It must be heartbreaking for you.

At least you managed to eventually find your dad and spend some time with him before he passed. So many years lost though which must have been difficult to cope with.

So what we are really looking for is any information on where your dad may have served his apprenticeship probably in Aberdeen and where he was working during WW2. Can I ask if you have a copy of your parents marriage certificate for 1944 and if so what is his occupation and address.

No worries about your original information. It is only by the process of elimination sometimes that we are able to help with the correct information,
