Harrison Motor Garage Keswick...
« on: Tuesday 29 June 21 10:19 BST (UK) »
Hello folk.

Been a very long time since I was last logged on. First off apologies if this thread/request should be someplace else, I'm happy to be educated if that's the case.

In short, my Grandad listed his occupation as a mechanic on his RAF records, specifically at a garage in Keswick named Harrison's. I'm really finding it difficult to find any reference or the holy grail of a photo of the place around the time of 1939.

If anyone may be able help as you've always done so previously, I'd be so thankful you wouldn't believe it.

Many thanks, Ty.

Definitely Keswick? There was one in Carlisle at that time.

Yes, I was just about to say that too.  ;) Taken over by Minories Garages in 1962.

This postcard shows at least 2  garages on the main street in Keswick - Keswick garage on the right, and Edmonson's on the left. (posted 1947 apparently)

Hi, ta for the kind replies.

I can't say I'm 100% sure that it wasn't the one in Carlisle, only going on that it would have been a hell of a schlep for young man day in and out to travel there and back regularly?

There are two mentions of Bacon Harrison on the Cascat about some planning permissions, one for 88a main street and another for tithe barn street in the late 1920s, if this is of any help?

Admittedly I'm clutching onto not very much but you know, don't ask, you won't know...

Cheers

This is all excellent findings, thank you ever so much. At least now I do have something to go on and that the record wasn't a herring of sorts.

But his surname was Bacon, not Harrison.
