Samuel Cook born 1873 in Skelton in Cleveland Royal Navy
« on: Sunday 04 July 21 09:35 BST (UK) »
I have a record from the National Archives of my 3x great uncle Samuel Cook whom joined the Royal Navy in 1892.  His record goes up to the end of 1915, but is very difficult to read, apart from the names of the ships he was on.  He was just a stoker in the engine room throughout his naval career.  Samuel died in 1937 aged 37 and his burial in Chatham Kent records that he was an Royal Navy pensioner.  I enclose his one page record.  If anyone could help decipher it, I would be grateful.

You need to amend his age at death, he was actually 64.

The dates refer to the time attached to the various ships and shore base, the others recording his good conduct. The rest you will need someone with more Naval knowledge.

He was just a stoker

Not just a stoker - he was a Stoker Petty Officer from 1906 on.

I could only find just 1 page of Samuel's Naval record.  I don't subscribe to Ancestry to read the document.  HMS Blenheim was certainly involved in World War one, as it was in the Mediterranean Sea, supporting the Gallipoli campaign.  Its interesting that he worked his way up to Petty Officer Stoker, even though he was just a stoker.  Is there any records of when he retired or got his pension?
