Canisbay cemetery
« on: Monday 05 July 21 03:55 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am looking for some direction. My 3x GG Elizabeth Mackay born 1867 was buried in Canisbay Cemetery in 1931. How would I go about finding out where she is located. Can I just email the church? Or is there an online database? Any direction would be appreciated. Also any added info on this cemetery would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The burial records will be in the care of Highland Council, and probably held at the archives centre in Caithness, so that's where you should start.
See https://www.highlifehighland.com/nucleus-nuclear-caithness-archives/

The Caithness Family History Society may have information about gravestone inscriptions.

There are some photographs of the cemetery in https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/ND3472
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you both for this info. I have reached out to the highland council and I am waiting for a response. Please if anyone has any other links to headstones I will gladly look through them while I wait for a response.
