Kirchardt or Sinsheim, Germany SS Officer
« on: Monday 05 July 21 15:49 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for help finding information regarding an SS Officer named Richard Reinhardt. He had a wife named Erna. They had children in the early 1930s. One or more of them were born in Sinsheim or Kirchardt.

I would like to know if anyone is able to search for SS records or if there is any site that is great for any graves prior to 1999 in this area of Germany.

Thank you
Murphy, Coughlin, Sullivan, Dyer, Munnelly, McDonald, Kelly, Gardinier

Hello,

The German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv) reports, 'The collections [of Military Records] from the period up to 1945 have suffered considerable losses due to the effects of war. The documents of the central offices of the Wehrmacht and the army command, of the services and the troops of the army below division level as well as of the air force and the Waffen SS are largely lost.'

However, the BA provides guidance for further research. See here https://www.rootschat.com/links/01qqe/

The State Archives (Landesarchiv) of Baden-Württemburg have several files that could refer to your man.

Enter "Reinhardt, Richard" in the search field here https://www2.landesarchiv-bw.de/ofs21/home.php

Of particular interest would be the files on Germans interned by the US forces while their degree of Nazi involvement was being investigated, and the files of the Spruchkammer (a special tribunal), which were established as part of the process of denazification.

Your man may well be the one listed here https://www.rootschat.com/links/01qqi/

Ref. No. 465 s Nr. 7677:
Born on 4th August 1907 in Fürfeld, Kreis Heilbronn (5km east of Kirchardt!). Resident in Kirchardt.

German Wikipedia has a very detailed description of the trial proceedings here https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spruchkammerverfahren. I can read the German, but presumably Google translate produces a reasonable translation.

Here is a fascinating article written by a German who researched his family's Nazi past
