What is the mother’s name?
« on: Friday 09 July 21 02:41 BST (UK) »
I’ve already posted this clip on another query

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=849957.msg7182496#msg7182496

But…can anyone make any other interpretation of the mother’s name in this clip than the one I have. I am starting to think she is a fictional character!

Appeared personally the same day the Rt Hon’ble Jane
Countess of Levin of St James in the County afsd by virtue of her corporal
Oath Deposeth that she is Mother to the
aforesaid Elianora Chichester & that she
 is consenting to ye same.

                                       Leven”

I don’t know what it says in the lower left corner

Your reading is fine.

The note at bottom left is from the same day - Eod(em) die - and mentions D(omi)na [Eleanor?] and Comitissa de Leven.  I don't think there's anything not covered by the English text (but may be wrong).

A Google search for "comitissa de levin" returns some results which may be of interest for background.

A newspaper search may return something for your people later in life.

Thank you HD.
This is driving me mad!

Comitissa de Leven just takes me to the same Melville-Leslie family.
There is a whole book about that family on Ancestry. Lots of wiki entries and other websites  etc etc.
There was a Countess Leven named Jane but she wasn’t born until the mid 1700s.  (1757? )

There is a Sir Arthur Chichester (Devon) who had a wife Jane (Mrs Harris, trees say née Arundel) but she died in 1717, so it cannot be her remarrying to become Countess Leven.

I cannot find a baptism for Elianora/Leonora/Eleanor Chichester c 1705

I am well and truly stumped.
