Hello

I’m looking for some suggestion of option to choose for subscription to look up an obituary in the Irish Examiner Archives from 1964.
There are three options and I’m not sure which one gives me the obituary option.

Firstly, can you re-edit your title to remove most of your capital letters.

Hello KG,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my message.

With regard to your request around the use of capital letters- I by no means meant to offend anyone by ‘shouting’. This is how I was taught. Subject line to be capital letters. However, I do believe in learning something new as often as one can, such as ISP’s potentially labelling as spam.
I am happy to adjust the capital letters, as to not set an aggressive tone.

I have looked at the Irish Newspaper Archives which is the site that gives me the three options to choose from.
My question is which one of the three options would be considered the most suitable option.
I have made an error in the past and paid for a subscription which essentially offered no more information than had been freely available. I would like to avoid doing that.

Unless this was a very dominant person you would be looking for a Death Notice rather than an obituary. Obituaries were written by newspaper staff, the more common Death Notices were paid for by the family and generally listed in a section headed 'Birth, Marriages & Deaths' (Hatches/matches & Despatches) usually in the same part of the newspapers each day - e.g. top left front page, 2nd page from the back etc. this can help if you browse a newspaper around the date of death - the searches can miss hard to read entries.

The Births Deaths and marriages should be covered by any option on IrishNewsArchives that includes the newspaper for the required date - from my reading of their list the basic option should cover the 'Irish Examiner' for the dates you need, and should include images for the full newspaper.

I would start with the image browse option if you know the date - work out where in the paper the bmd section is - maybe then try general text search in case there are any other related articles or an obituary

p.s. It may also be worth checking one month after the date of death for a "Month's Mind", and also later for possible issues with probate and Wills etc, if a business or farm was involved there can be auctions or sales of equipment, livestock, properties etc
