Helen and James - Scotland 20th century - military - date please
« on: Sunday 18 July 21 15:02 BST (UK) »
Helen was born in Kirkcudbrightshire in 1890.  Here she is with her husband Jimmy.  It was taken by a photographer in Galashiels, although I think they lived in the Edinburgh area.

How precisely can we date it?  And any other information we can glean from it.  Thank you!

Kilt apron or cover introduced early in the Great War to protect the kilt in the trenches, the sporran was replaced by a pocket in this.

Bests,
Skoosh.

Do they have a surname - it might help.

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

Looks like James Saner Duckworth from Galashiels of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and later RAMC whose wife was Helen McLachlan married in Edinburgh in December 1912.

If that is him then Findmypast has his service record https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM%2FWO363-4%2F007296806%2F00024&parentid=GBM%2FWO363-4%2F7296806%2F2%2F24
