John McGough Born .c. 1820

Hi all,  shot in the dark here.  I am trying to trace a John McGough who was born in Ireland around 1820 and emigrated to Canada to appear on the census in 1851.  He gave his occupation as a shoemaker.  I have his life in Canada but am drawing a blank in Ireland.  I am entering this post in Monaghan as the name seems to be quite common in the area.

Hi, just read your post from 2021. My great grandfather Hugh McGough gave Aghnamullen, Monaghan, as his birthplace on the 1881 England census in Manchester, Lancashire. So far I have not got any further back than that.

Have you managed to find any birth/baptismal records since your post?

I should have mentioned Hugh was born 1849 and married in Dundalk 1871 and arrived in England some time between 1871 and 1881. His obit mentioned that he was employed by a Manchester  tailor for 60 years, so I assume that he arrived pre 1879.
