John Ryder born c1877 Liverpool
« on: Wednesday 28 July 21 14:16 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Struggling with this one  :-[

I've located the marriage in December 1906 for John Ryder marrying Sarah Grace nee Lynch (see attached) and also in 1901 I've found him aged 24 living at 43 Regent Road, Liverpool coincidentally with Lynch family and a brother listed as James aged 19.  This address is also the address he was living at when he married in 1906.

The 1911 census seems to indicate he was at sea as there are quite a few records for him between 1901/1902 onwards on crews lists.  His wife Sarah is living in Liverpool with their son John Ryder (Junior) born 1906 (registered in 1907).  There is also a brother listed on this census as Thomas Ryder aged 38 who worked as a Mariner and listed as Sarah's brother in law.

Going off the 1901 census it states that both John and James were born in Liverpool.

John's death record in January 1927 states he was aged 48 when he died making him born around 1878.

I've pretty much got all the loose ends tied up from 1901 onwards and on the marriage it seems to indicate that John's Father was also called John (Joannis in Latin) but I cannot find anything to match anyone up prior to the 1901 census.

Can anyone help please? Cheers

Hmmm not to sure on that one as John's birth year is given as 1872 and he was born from other records between 1876 to 1878 - thanks for the find/message though

James Ryder is listed as brother in 1911 where Mary Ann Lynch is the householder.
1900 birth of John Lynch has mmn Ryder as does William Lynch in 1903.

The only marriage I can see is 1897 where William Lynch and Mary Anne Riley are on the same page.

Good spot Heywood  :)

Riley could easily be misheard as Ryder - I thought Mary could have been a sister but because I couldn't find the marriage to William Lynch I disregarded it.

I found John Ryder (bc1878) in 1904 in the workhouse and next of kin was Mary Ann listed as Mary Ann Ryder (must have been an error as was Lynch by this period) stating sister living on Townsend Street which was nearby to Regent Road and Beacon Street so again it appears as a match that there was another sibling Mary.

Still need that breakthrough prior to 1901 though unfortunately!
