I am looking for the parents of Dorothy Ellen Davies. She was born in London, England on the 30th of September 1893 (according to the 1939 register (https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discoveryui-content/view/34623234:61596?ssrc=pt&tid=175908794&pid=122282150078)). I know from the person who I am making this tree for that she had a sister called Margaret, and a brother whose name I do not know. Her father was illegitmate.

I believe that this (https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=7814&h=15892255&tid=175908794&pid=122282150078&queryId=630b40ea701ac8e2356133252b31a4e6&usePUB=true&_phsrc=xgt37213&_phstart=successSource) could potentially be her in the 1901 census (no others fit) - but I cannot see anyway she would link to the Dilkes family, who I did research.

As for birth records - the only birth record for a Dorothy Ellen Davies (or Davis) in 1893 in London is this (https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=8912&h=41346857&tid=175908794&pid=122282150078&queryId=630b40ea701ac8e2356133252b31a4e6&usePUB=true&_phsrc=xgt37212&_phstart=successSource) one, with the additional middle name of Jelley (??), with the mother's maiden name of Guinner - however, I cannot find a marriage between a 'Davies' and a 'Guinner' (or even 'Gunner' and there is no Margaret Davies born under the maiden name of 'Guinner' or 'Gunner'. Since I am making this tree for somebody else, I am not a position to be paying to order the birth certificate.

I do not need any information about Dorothy's later life (her marriage to Sydney Nicholls, her daughter, her death, etc.,)

Can anybody help me? Thank you in advance!

I can only see 2 entries for Guinner marriages on freeBMD, but they are both in London and both in the right time period.

Marriages Mar 1882
GUINNER    Maria        Pancras    1b   227

Marriages Mar 1886
GUINNER    Anna Maria         Kensington    1a   292

Neither of these marriages is to a Davies. But I wonder if one of them REmarried a Davies? Maybe she was widowed?

Yes, that was the one I was thinking about. I think its the only one that fits Dorothy.

Marriages Dec 1921   (>99%)
Davies    Dorothy E    Nicholls    Warwick    6d   1595

Unfortunately I can only the marriage listed under civil registrations, with no online certificate available.

Ditto those two Guinner marriages I mentioned earlier!

I didn't think of that! That's definitely good idea, but I can't find any obvious options (by looking at the potential spouses listed on the records) that would fit this.

Another option of course is that Dorothy's parents weren't actually married at all.

The Guinner surname is (apparently?) prevalent in France and USA.
Maybe a marriage outwith England & Wales?
