John Lovelace Augustin Bray - 1829-1872
« on: Monday 02 August 21 09:15 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Im on the hunt for my ancestors parents to continue building this line of the tree.

Information currently at hand shows him living in London, Married in 1849 to Rosa Jemima Martin and having several children (John Charles, Rosa Kate, Charles Lovelace, Florence Lizzie, Frederick Augustus, Ernest Walter, Laura Helena, Eveline Emma and Alfred Herbert before passing away in 1872 - while living at 32 Stepney Green, St Clement Danes, Middlesex.

I havent got a copy of his marriage certificate, but apparently his father is mentioned as John Bray - Grocer on it.  And thats the only hint of either of this parents I can find anywhere.

Anyone care to take a stab at this and see if they can help me push past this bloack?

Many thanks in advance!

Looks like that marriage is correct:

Baptised 28/9/1828 Lincoln's Inn Fields (Sardinian Chapel) St. Anselm & St. Cecilia (Roman Catholic) Joannes Loveless, son of Joannis and Anna Bray.

(Written in Latin, Joannes/Joannis being John).

Thanks for the responses so far.

Ann Lovelace has been discounted - she died in 1903 (probate record)and her husband John then lived with his daughter (Selina Lily Chamberlain/Bray, mentioned in probate record) leading me to census record of Chamberlain household where he is listed as being 88 years old in 1911.  That would make him 6 years old at the time of John Lovelace Bray's birth in 1829, so no go there.

Ive hunted quite a bit on the 1841 census to no avail.

Ill keep hammering at it - any ideas welcome :)

The Ann Bray that died in 1903 at Forest Hill was age 80 so cannot possibly be the Ann Lovelace that married John Bray in 1817.
