Andrew Johnston, born Armagh, abt 1839-1842, father Joseph
« on: Monday 02 August 21 19:33 BST (UK) »
Andrew Johnston married Nancy Wallace Sept 3, 1860 at the Registrar's Office in Cookstown, his father Joseph, and he was of full  age so born before 1839 if this is true. Age on the 1901 census is 59 so born abt 1841ish. Age at death is 72 in 1912 in the Magherafelt Workhouse so born abt 1840.
Andrew is born Co.Armagh as per 1901 census, carpenter, Baptist, wife Rachel nee Lennox whom he married in 1875.
So Andrew's father was Joseph who could  possibly be born abt 1800. Wondering if Joseph's father could be Andrew. This is a wild guess but I found an Andrew Johnston, born Armagh, who served in the 6th Dragoons, discharged age 43, looks like served 1790-1814 so born 1771ish. Would there be any way to find out more about Andrew who was in the 6th Dragoons?
Thank you
Peggy

Interesting that you reference the discharges from the armed forces as I just came across two I'd not seen before for a William Davis b about 1760 also in Armagh. I'm not sure why I've never come across these before but the fact that they are specific to the year of birth and generally to the town whence the man entered the army makes them possibly very valuable.

Findmypast specifying 6th Dragoons has following

If you found Ancestry one or other likely the same. That will be all there is, can't open above as not got a sub currently.

Thank you Jon_ni and Dave. I don't have a subscription to  Ancestry either but will try to pursue this.
