Clay or Claye family
« on: Saturday 07 August 21 13:04 BST (UK) »
I have a copy of Thomas Hurtley's 'Concise account of some Natural Curiosities in the environs of Malham in Craven, Yorkshire' 1786. It has several dated owners' signatures and notes based on a Clay or Claye family (both spellings used), which I thought might be of interest to descendants. The chief location seems to have been Bradford. The entries are as follows:

'James Clay's Book Bradford'
'James Clay died after 1818'
'Richard Claye - Manchester -1814 presented to him by his Grandfather Thos Claye of Black Abbey near Bradford' [Black Abbey is now part of Manningham in Bradford]
'Andrew M[indecipherable] Claye, Brigg 1914, presented to him by his uncle Kenneth Claye of Radlett, Herts'.

Not sure I can help further, but by all means get in touch.

Andrew.
