That is sad news. Max has helped me with military queries and puzzles in the past. He was so knowledgeable, his answers informative and so carefully explained. i often found I would look at posts where he has contributed - not just my own questions -  as I knew i would learn something new.

Max was very much respected & appreciated, for generously giving his time to decipher the gobbledygook that is in military records. His passing will leave a huge gap not only in your family Zoe but in his RootsChat family too. May all the good memories shared here be of comfort to you & the family.

Also being interested in military history Max & I have collaborated
many times over the years & as recently as a few days ago & I found him knowledgeable, generous
with his time & patient with all those seeking his help.
The irreplaceable MaxD will be missed by all.

I have only just seen this post - it is with great sadness I extend my condolences to you and your family. 

MaxD was a hugely expert, kind contributor to this forum, and his help assisted very very many people.

I have only just seen this post regarding your wonderful Grandfather and am deeply shocked and saddened, he was one of the most helpful and knowledgeable people on the forum and will be greatly missed by many, many people.
