Main family Dunbar St Hopeman
« on: Thursday 12 August 21 11:27 BST (UK) »
Can anyone shed any light on this family moving forward from this 1891 census.

I know quite a lot about their history. The only member I know much about from this date forward is the son Daniel.I don't need any more information about him.

I cannot find much about the two sisters. I believe that Mary married William McPherson in 1915 (I have the certificate) but then I lose them. Both bride and groom lived in Dunbar St, Hopeman before marriage.

I cannot find any information for Elsie (Elspeth) after this 1891 census.

I believe the mother Mary died 1897 and the father James in 1920.

It is mainly the two sisters I am interested in. Where did they go after this census and the marriage in 1915.

Have you checked possible death certs for Mary with the info you have?

SP show two possible deaths for a Mary Main/M*cPherson born c. 1884:

Aged 35, died in Elgin in 1923

Aged 56, died in Duffus in 1940

Thanks to both of you. I will follow these up.

I think the Elsie married to Benjamin Ralph was much older and had different parents.

i thought I had found Mary & William McPherson, emigrated to New Jersey but that couple were both born in Johnstone.

Wrong marriage so save your credits.

There is a 1901 entry showing Elsie Ralph aged 33 b Hopeman living with Catherine & Alexander Ralph who were Benjamin Ralph's parents

Earlier censuses show Benjamin was b 1867 & there is an Elsie Main b 1868 Hopeman on the 1891 census

Sadly, Elsie died young at the age of 22 in 1903 in Elgin. Daniel, her brother, registered her death. Her usual residence was 25 Dunbar St, Hopeman but she died at Gray's Hospital, Elgin.

Cause of death was TB and also she had suffered from an abscess for more that 1 year. I can't make out first word there. I will snip and add.

Census entry for Elise a possibility.

I have a possible 1901 entry for Mary age 19, a servant in Ardersier. Problem with living as a servant is proving it is the correct person. Only thing to go on really is place and approximate year of birth.

I have Mary's wedding certificate in 1915 where bride's address is given as Dunbar St.

Useful information to follow up. Thank you all.
