Place in Paisley - help please
« on: Tuesday 17 August 21 15:31 BST (UK) »
Attached is an image of my Grandmothers Birth Certificate in 1874. Finding one word difficult
I think I can make out Cottage at Carlile Quay, then the word I can't make out then Paisly.
I looked up old maps and found Carlile Quay on the River Cart but not much else.

Hope someone can help.

James Kerr.

Looks like "Mid" something
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

That sounds like a good answer, thank you very much.

This might help

Don

Thank you Don, I'm having to go to the other side of the country to find out about this, my Grandmother was born in the place mentioned, all her sisters and brothers above and below her  were born in Uphall West Lothian, her father worked in the Oil Works there, the first Oil Works in the world set up by "Paraffin Young". I have no idea who they were visiting at the time of her birth, a task for later I think, but "Cottage at Carlile Quay" is no help at all and no McCrystal's are listed in ScotlandsPeople in that area.

Hi Mosstrooper.

As a RootsChat  veteran, you will of course know that 'newbies' responses do not show until AFTER they have had two posts submitted AND approved by a moderator.

Moderators have quite a workload.

Sometimes, a 'newbie' response takes a couple of days to appear, and other more experienced members may have given the same response in the interim.

The wine was excellent, and copious, thank you. :)
