Were there two Andrew Simpsons?
« on: Wednesday 25 August 21 15:50 BST (UK) »
I have found a marriage of Andrew Simpson (of the Royal Artillery) and Betsy Scott on 21 Aug 1814 in St Helier. But I have now found a baptism for a Thomas Simpson on 16 July 1809 s/o of andrew Simpson and Elizabeth Scott his wife. Were there two Andrew Simpsons who married Scott girls with similar names? Then there is a burial of Andrew Simpson Gent on 14 Sep 1816 in St Saviour.
Has the soldier (who may have been an officer) become a gentleman?. The burial record is written in French, the marriage and baptism are in English. I have found many Jersey registers use both languages, possibly depending on the nationality /origin of the individuals involved.
The only Betsy Scott I can find of right sort of age was d/o of John Scott (a soldier from Lanark) and Elizabeth Le Noble his wife bapt 29 June 1789.

Can anyone help please.
