Unthank
« on: Monday 30 August 21 07:59 BST (UK) »
I have discovered Elinor Unthank in my family tree. All I know about her is that she married John Jennings in Kendal Westmorland in 1750.
Would like to hear from anyone else with information on the Unthank family tree.

Thanks B

There is also an Eleanor UNTHANK marries Robert BOWNESS at Orton on 8 Feb 1748. So definitely more than one around at the same time.

Unthank is a hamlet in Angus, Scotland. It lies approximately half a mile north-west of Brechin on the B966 Brechin to Edzell road.

Also,

Unthank Hall is a Grade II listed property now serving as commercial offices, situated on the southern bank of the River South Tyne east of Plenmeller, near Haltwhistle, Northumberland,.

The origin of this family name is more likely to be the village of Unthank in Cumbria. The earliest with this family name in Common Pleas (early to mid 15th century) were in Cumbria and Westmorland.

Thank you, this does complicate things more.
I think it likely that the other John was a cousin of my John. Luckily the baptism entry for their son John includes a mother's name and lists Ellinor as his mother.
Going by the children's names I think it slightly more likely but not certain that George was Elinor 's father but will keep checking.

Thank you,
Orton is nearer Newton Reigny than Kendal so this could be the Elinor that was born there. I will definitely have to go back the registers again.
