Kloumann, your summary really helps to see all the details together in order.

Yes, sure will help Fiona  :)

I have been trying to find Albert Norman in Canada in 1911. No joy so far  :-\

His daughter's grave has her birth as 1911. Should be 1921. She is a Canadian citizen at her marriage to Jack Hanna in 1939

Thanks Kloumann, that really was very helpful!  A couple of questions....if James Murray Stevenson's parents married in the Gorbals, where would he have lived? eg where can I look for his birth certificate or any Presbyterian Church thereabouts? I have downloaded so many James Stevenson birth certificates but not found his one yet. I can see he obviously lived his entire life in Kilmarnock from the age of three so his wife (if this was the right family) probably assumed he was born there?  I am not sure where you found out they were in the Boer War.  I looked up Fold3 but will need to subscribe again to get the information Monica gave me the other day relating to enlistment. Will do this on the weekend.  If they were in the Boer War would that have been through the Royal Scots Fusilers?  Any idea of the year they arrived in South Africa and how they got there eg ship name?  Do you know when William arrived in New Zealand?  I just can't work out what James did from enlistment year to date of marriage in 1910.   Any clue what happened to the brother John?  I assume James, William and John were full blood siblings and Norman etc. were half brothers/sisters?  Thanks again for all your help.  I am hoping this is the family!

My best bet would be Calton, Glasgow or Bridgeton.

... I just can't work out what James did from enlistment year to date of marriage in 1910...

Could he have got married in SA after the Boer War I wonder. There is this marriage in 1902:

www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C919-WQH1-P?cc=2821281&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3A6ZHP-FRNJ

James Stevenson, Butcher, married Agnes Dirkman on 29 October 1902 in Port Elizabeth, Kaapprovinsie, Suid-Afrika. Marriage by special licence, both full age.

Below is this James Stevenson's signature on the register. Could we compare it with signatures on other documents?

Added: Below this signature is James's signature from the register for his 1910 marriage to Agnes Sims.
