Michal Cichon married 1953 Kidderminster
« on: Sunday 05 September 21 13:22 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I am looking for any UK information about Michal/Michael Peter Cichon born 24 January 1915 Lapuszka Wielka Poland.

I have his WWII refugee/displaced person records from Arolsen Archive in Germany detailing his forced farm labour work in Schwabach and placement in refugee DP camps ending at Amberg and his subsequent resettlement to England in May 1948.

I know he married Nora Tromans at Kidderminster in 1953 (freeBMD has the entries as Cichon/Thomas and Tromans/Cichon and verified from Nora’s 1939 Register entry showing change of name from Tromans to Cichon).

Michael dies at Bristol in May 1987 aged 72 and Nora dies at Weston super Mare in February 2005 aged 85.

I haven’t been able to identify any children being registered, any electoral register entries (other than for Nora Cichon at Kidderminster 1955-7 and at Weston super Mare 2003-4, any newspaper references, any UK immigration paperwork, any naturalization details, or any probate entries for either of them.

Your help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

So Nora isn't listed with Michal on the electoral register 1955-7.

I can't see any births for children either.

I wonder if his death certificate would help at all  :-\
It should give his occupation/address which might lead to something.

There is a probate entry for Nora Cichon in 2005 but it shows grant only which indicates no will - administration only

I agree about getting the certificates and have now ordered both deaths and the marriage to see what they bring in a few weeks once they get mailed out here to Australia.

I must admit that my gut feeling here is that the marriage may not have been a happy one and leaves me wondering if Michal may have been institutionalized in either prison or asylum.

Michal wouldn't appear on the electoral registers, as he wouldn't have been eligible to vote.

You can download a copy of the probate but it may not give much info - just the name & details of the person who applied.  Cost is £1.50

I had a feeling he wouldn’t be eligible to vote due to not yet being a citizen.

I might get the probate, it won’t cost much but I am not expecting it to provide much of use.
