Andrew Hyslop born about 1786 Urr
« on: Sunday 19 September 21 21:15 BST (UK) »
Not my first post about my Hyslop ancestors, they are tricky to sort out!

I have an Andrew Hyslop on a couple of censuses but I can’t find a death for him, so any suggestions are welcome.

He is living with his brother James in 1841 in Balmaghie.

James Hyslop Age 55
Andrew Hyslop Age 50
Jean Hyslop Age 45
Agnes Hyslop Age 25
James Hyslop Age 20
Andrew Hyslop Age 15
Mary Hyslop Age 12

In 1861 he is living with niece Agnes in Lochrutton.

Andrew Hyslop Age 75
Agnes Hume Age 50
William Hume Age 40
Mary Hume Age 9
John Hume Age 6

Hi Jopeg

Do you know the maiden name of Andrew or James's mother? The SP index shows for example deaths for an Andrew (age +/- 1886) with mother's maiden names of:

Black in Dalbeattie
Drachel in Nenthorn
Palmer in Canonbie

Re a mother with a maiden name of Black, there is a Janet Black mentioned here www.findagrave.com/memorial/143252302/jane-hyslop

Is this the birth of the niece Agnes with whom Andrew was living with in 1861? www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYMT-5HC

Re the Andrew Hyslop who died at Canonbie in 1886, there. is a M.I. relating to him at Canonbie
churchyard. It gives his death as 19 Aug 1866  age 78 yrs. His wife Margaret Elliot died 25 Oct 1838 age 47 yrs. Also his daughter Isabella who died 4 June 1842 age 11 yrs. Both Andrew and Margaret died at Hollows.

I had ruled out the Canonbie one.

The maiden name Black has him married to a Jane Gracie, it is clearly not a first marriage for her as her stepdaughter Helen witnesses the death certificate, I am trying to find this one on the censuses.

What were the parents' names for the 'Black' death?

Added: the James Hyslop death in 1864 connects to the family of Andrew Hyslop and Janet Black. This James, who I think you have already looked at, was married to Margaret Shaw.

I have just added to my post above.

So, the death of James who shows with Andrew in 1841 looks to also be elusive. Wonder if he (James) died pre 1855?

Have you found his wife Jane Dickson in 1851?

Yes I have Jane Dickson/Hyslop in 1851 1861 and I have her death certificate.

No clues there.
