William Dawe Bastardy bonds
« on: Friday 24 September 21 03:01 BST (UK) »
Good morning,

Is it possible to find out more information regarding  Bastardy orders. I ordered back in 2006 a printout for the Dawe family from Devon Family History Society . Part of it was a Index printout of Devon family history books. There is an entry for "William Dawe 22/11/1853 Mother Elizabeth Brock Putative father William Dawe of the Elder Division of Holdsworthy summon 22/11/1853 Petty Sessions on 15/12/1853 Result order made."
I would love to find out more information regarding William Dawe - his address aqe etc to see how he fits with my Dawe family.
Does the elder bit mean he has a son called William?
any help would be most appreciated
regards
Anne

Hi Ann, first thoughts, the Division of Holsworthy (as opposed to Holdsworthy) was an administrative division, does the 'Elder' perhaps refer to that and not to William Dawe.
Somerset and Wiltshire: Rodgers, Wilkins, Maundrill, Tucker, Adlam, Carey, Butcher, Fleetwood AND Scotland: Rodgers

Thanks Annie for replying,
Yes I wasn't sure if "the Elder "was in reference to the location or the man . Was I think clutching at straws.
In the same printout there is another Bastardy order for "William Dawe of the younger division of Holsworthy".

On Find My Past, there is an 1853 record (no image) for an Elizabeth Brock in the Devon Social & Institutional Records collection. I'm unable to view the record for details (no FP sub).

Added: The location is Holsworthy, Devon.

Sadly that just repeats the information given in OP's first post

Is there a baptism record for the child in question? Once in awhile, baptism records indicate the father's name.

Yes there is a baptism . The childs name is Drusilla Brock - unfortunately no fathers name listed.
I have information regarding Drusilla but unfortunately no relatives in census etc with Dawe name. On her marriage cert father is William Brock . I have DNA matches with Drusillas descendants.
What I really need is a year of birth for William Dawe so I can place him in the census.

Has Drusilla been found in 1861 or 1871 or has her mother Elizabeth been identified?

Drusilla has been found in 1861 census entered as Priscilla Brock . She is a patient/scholar in Holdsworthy Workhouse where I think she was born (awaiting birth certificate).  Her mother I think dies 1857 Holsworthy workhouse ( yet to order death cert).
In 1871 & 1881  Drusilla is entered as Prescilla Brock general servant in Isaac household in Holsworthy. Later in 1881 Drucilla marries Edward Herbert Mathias .
