Blackborne Hundred Hearth Tax
« on: Thursday 30 September 21 21:29 BST (UK) »
I have gone back to one of the more elusive Pays, and the notes I have for the Hearth Tax have him in Hailes Bridge borough, Blackborne Hundred. I have found the Hundred, but not the Borough. From what I know, he lived in Mersham, but that does not seem to be in that Hundred.
I would also like to know how he came to be in Mersham!

With no forename and no date given?

Hales place gets a mention here. https://www.british-history.ac.uk/survey-kent/vol7/pp220-226

There were 7 Pay children Baptised in 1700's at Mersham.

Sorry - perhaps I did not word it very well. I am just trying to place Hailes Bridge Borough. I have all the births and deaths, but not his marriage. Roger Pay and Mary.
   Roger came from Elham.

Another mention in British History online
BETHERSDEN

What sort of date would the marriage have been?

Thanks for the piece about Bethersden, I will need to study a map to sort it out.
Roger Pay's known children are Susanna, bapt Mersham 1642 and William, bapt Mersham 1645. There is another daughter, Mary, date unknown. Wife Mary died 1662, buried Woodchurch. William died 1670 also buried Woodchurch. Roger was buried in Mersham 1684.
