Missing ancestor James White was born in 1858
« on: Sunday 10 October 21 10:54 BST (UK) »
Hello

I would be grateful for assistance or thoughts on a family mystery which we cannot find an answer too.

James White was born in 1858, Partick, Glasgow. I have a copy of the certificate from SP. I found him and his parents in the 1861 census. All good so far. His mother died in 1864 and his father remarried in 1867. I found James along with his dad, step-mum and step brother and sister in the 1871 census in Anderston, Glasgow. He is 14 and "a rivet boy Boilerwork".

Then nothing. I cannot find him anywhere after 1871.

His dad and step-mum had another boy in 1885 and named him James White. I thought this was odd given that the dad had an older son already called James from the first marriage.

My question is what happened to James the son between 1871 and 1885.

1. did he die?
2. did he marry?
3. did he move away?

I checked the deaths on SP from 1871-1885 which list the mother's maiden name. There is no James with the mother's maiden for mother and step-mother.

Help please with any comment or suggestions. Many thanks.

Would be helpful to include his mother and stepmother's names.

that isn't James in 1881 wrong parents. I looked at this one when visiting Edinburgh pre-pandemic.

Hi Bart

I was answering Don’s query as you hadn’t given any details of his parents or stepmother
