David Williams of the Parish of Battle ca 1630 - 1704

Hi,

David Williams, Gentleman, of Brecon made a Will in 1704. It is on-line at the Library of Wales Wills.

It refers to friend Edward Hughes and father John Williams. His wife Jane was pregnant and he had three young children: William. David and Catherin.

He may be the David Williams of Battle who was related to the Williams family of Bailey Brith in Merthyr Cynog.  David may have been a brother of Henry Williams of Bailey Brith who died in 1672

I have tried to identify John Williams, the father of this David Williams.

He might have belonged to the family of Daniel Williams of Penpont (who died in 1707).

This is because in 1705 Daniel Williams of Penpont refused to be a Bondsman for the estate of a John Williams of Penpont Gent. who died intestate.

Thanks to deciphering by Bookbox, I have the following:

May 1704
Daniel Williams, esquire, the natural and lawful father/brother (the Latin is illegible) and next blood relative of John Williams of Penpont, gentleman, who died intestate, has appeared personally and of his own volition has renounced and utterly rejected letters of administration for John’s estate.

Subsequently on the same Bond:

26 May 1705
Let there be administration of the goods, rights and credits of John Williams, gentleman, deceased, to Catherine Games, spinster, aunt and next relative of the said deceased, upon the renunciation of Daniel Williams, esquire, the natural and lawful father of the same deceased ...

ADDED - The implication, then, is that John died young, survived by his father Daniel and by his aunt (the Latin here is avuncula, usually meaning ‘maternal aunt’).

David Williams of Battle, adult in 1670 (in another Bond) seems too old to have such a young family.

But I can't find any other reference to the John Williams of Penpont who had Daniel Williams as Brother/Father and an aunt Catherine Games.

And that is odd for such a well-documented family as the Williams's of Penpont, Breconshire..

Any help will be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks!
