Lookup for the birth of Robert Stewart
« on: Wednesday 20 October 21 01:19 BST (UK) »
His father was the Rev. Samuel Oliver Stewart 1873- 1952 who left Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland in 1909 he took up his post at the MARYCULTER UNITED FREE CHURCH in November 1909,  Rev, Samuel and his wife Annie Stewart nee Snodgrass 1881-1959 were living at The Manse.  In the 1911 census they had no children.  According to Rev. Samuel's memorial "He served in WW1 with the Blackwatch and afterwards was with the Army of Occupation in Germany.  The only mention I have of a son is on Annie's death certificate it records the name Robert Stewart, son present at death.  He must have been born after the 1911 census and Rev Samuel going off to war.  Rev Samuel would have been in his 40s when the war started.   Samuel Oliver Stewart, retired from Tyrie on 30th June. 1942 and returned to Co Cavan, Ireland.  Thankyou in advance for any information.  Angela

I note the 1901 census in Ireland and I assume he was not married at this time?

Stewart   Samuel Oliver   27   Male   Visitor   Presbyterian   Londonderry City   Clergyman   Read and write

There was an Annie Snodgrass born is Scotland in 1882 but no marriage to Samuel, so I guess they were both born and married in Ireland.

I also note they were in Scotland by 1911 https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk this site also shows four Robert Stewarts (Two with a middle name) born 1911 – 1915 various places in Kincardineshire. You can search for free.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Interesting that his obitury in the Irish Times 25 November 1952 mentions that he is survived by this wife but there is no mention of a son

Thanks for all the information I will follow it up.  I was hoping his wife Annie Stewart had an obituary which may have mentioned Robert.  Samuel was born, married and lived in Ireland until moving to Scotland sometime after his marriage.  Regards Angela

The original of the 1901 census listing in Ireland says that he was not married. You can view the original document at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

Samuel Oliver Stewart, minister, son of Oliver Stewart, merchant, married Annie Sarah Snodgrass, nurse, daughter of John George Snodgrass, farmer, on 10 October 1905 in Strabane, County Donegal. You can view the original document at https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

Annie Sarah Snodgrass was born on 10 December 1881 at Alt, Strabane, father John George Snodgrass, farmer, mother Annie McIlvray. You can view the original document at https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

The only mention I have of a son is on Annie's death certificate it records the name Robert Stewart, son present at death.

If you are referring to the death of Anne STEWART in 1959 at Bracklin in the Bailieborough district then I think you have the wrong death.

I agree that that is the wrong death. That Anne Stewart is aged 90, which means that she was born in 1868/1869, 12 or 13 years before Samuel Oliver Stewart's wife Annie Snodgrass.

Yes sorry everyone I found then lady the death certificate belonged to on the 1911 census whose eldest child was Robert.  I will need to search for another death certificate for Annie.  Thank  you once again.  Angela
