Shall we be able to spend Christmas with our families?
« on: Sunday 24 October 21 11:41 BST (UK) »
Although the government is trying to keep popular at the moment by not re-introducing more restrictions, scientists, who may well know better, are urging us to practise more mask-wearing, handwashing and social distancing, fearing that a possible lockdown or at least more serious regulations may in the end have to be introduced.  I do feel that by "advising" us rather than by imposing legal restrictions now the government is putting the onus on each of us, possibly so that we, rather than they, will be blamed if/when conditions worsen and if/when lockdown has to be re- introduced.  I fear for Christmas gatherings.

In the last week to 10 days there has been much talk about "Plan B" - masks and lockdowns again. Am I the only one who thinks that "Plan A" has not yet been fully implemented?

Not everybody has been fully vaccinated - many have not even had one dose. The booster jab roll-out seems to be stalling before it gets going.

I think that Gillg is right - Christmas is in jeopardy.

I haven't booked a flight yet (IoM to Bristol), and have heard only this week that 3 of my grandchildren have tested positive.

My booster jab isn't due until the end of December.

Covid rates on IoM are relatively high (for us) but North Somerset's rates have sky-rocketed!

Should I stay; or should I go?!

I would be cautious and wait for a few weeks yet. You are right, Somerset is experiencing high numbers of cases at the moment. Better safe than sorry.

Our village has cancelled the usual Christmas Shopping night. Usually a fun evening with all shops open and extra stalls. Generally the village is packed!
Covid rates here are rising, 74 new cases over three parishes in the last week. I will be shopping online again, I would rather not but I’m not prepared to take a risk when so many are un-masked and ignore the hand sanitisers   :(

My son has already said he doesn't feel it is safe for him to come over from Switzerland this Christmas

We are currently debating whether it will be wise for us to go down to our daughter in St Albans
Suspect it will only be Mr Marma and myself around the dinner table again this year

Luckily, assuming our family all live in the same country, we have a few more weeks before we have to make the ultimate decision.

I've seen my daughter and her family only twice in the last two years - when they visited on my birthday.

As long as we are all safe and well, does it really matter?   :-X
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Exactly
Keeping safe and well is what is important
There are so many other ways of keeping in touch these days that we do not have to gather in person.

We haven't seen our son since Sept 2019 and have only seen our daughter twice since Covid started
