Edmund Slee, possibly of Warcop
« on: Thursday 28 October 21 11:59 BST (UK) »
Hi, I've been struggling to find much information regarding an Edmund Slee. The only real information I have is that he married Mary Gibson on 8th June 1796 at St. Michael, Appleby. It was witnessed by William Slee (Possibly a brother) and James Richardson.
I did find in a couple of separate searches that one states his mother could be called Agnes and another states his father could be called Jonathan, but nothing concrete.
The record with Agnes shows that Edmund was baptised on 30/08/1769 at St. Lawrence, Appleby.
(There is a sibling called Mary, born 1776 both at Hoff Row)
I would be grateful if anyone can help with the true date of baptism and his parents information if possible.

Hi

There's an Edmund Slee on Ancestry born March 1780, St Lawrence, Appleby, Westmoreland. Parents are listed as John Slee (1748) and Deborah Ellwood (1746). John Slee's parents are Jonathan Sleigh 1726-1809 and Elizabeth Mounsey 1723-1812 - although both of those seem look like very long lives so not sure how accurate those dates are.

A tree on Ancestry lists the following children to Edmund & Mary…
Edmund 1801 (modified)
Robert 1804
Ann 1806
Margaret 1808
Matthew 1811
Mary 1814
Sarah 1817

Sarah marries Joseph Graham in 1846 - the marriage certificate may provide a clue perhaps

Sarah & Joseph appear to stay in Warcop, in 1851 mother Mary is living with them, age 74, widow, Pauper formerly wife of lab, born Warcop.

In 1858 Sarah & Joseph have a son named Edmund.

No help in finding Edmunds birth or death though  ???

Hello
I can see two baptisms for Agnes but both make her quite young
Agnes bapt at Greystoke 1755 (transcript FindMyPast) d of John married Isaac Todhuunter at Greystoke 28.11.1781 and buried there 21.5.1831 birth year c 1756.

The other is the one you found at Kendal 31.10.1756 d of Jonathon and Agnes.
This lady marries at Sedburgh by licence .She is of Howick Sedburgh and  the groom Septimus Tebay is a husbandman of Kirby Lansdale .She is burried at Whittington Lancashire  5.11.1835 of Sketon ? age 80

But obviously both would make her 13 /14 when she had Edmond and 21/22 when she had Mary.

The other clue may be her address Hoff Raw

At the same place are a Robert and Elizabeth having children -William 12.1.1794 and Eleanor 5.8.1798.
the couple seem to have been married at Warcop 10.11.1782 by banns .She was Betty Scollick
Robert is buried at Hilton 11.3.1811 age 50 so born c 1761.
There is a baptism at Morland for a Robert Slee s of Thomas 16.7.1761

Struggling with Cumbria archives catalogue
but--- there is an entry for Agnes on the National Archives catalogue
Removal order for Agnes 13 .5.1769 -so when she was preganant with Edmond .
She was moved from Brampton to Appleby St Lawrence. She is a single woman.
It is held at Kendal Archives.
Hopefully fingers crossed it will give an age and parents details.

I'll see what else I can spot

ps the Jonathon Slee /Sleigh and Elizabeth Mounsey that Cafetiere found is the same Jonathon Sleigh/slee and Agnes nee Jackson  from 1755 .He remarries after Elizabeth's death .
And Mary Gibson is from Warcop ,bapt 18 Jan 1777 d of Robert and Margaret Gibson.
