« on: Friday 29 October 21 23:06 BST (UK) »
my family has always been told that we have gypsy heritage coming from my great grandfathers side possibly, i’m wondering if there’s any records of gypsies with the surname ‘montford’ in areas mostly wales, shropshire or leicestershire. thanks!

Lee Family (Travellers/Gypsies),

Hello I have been speaking to my aunt about my family history we have traced back Lee's from Great Barford. Looked in the census and my family didn't have a fixed abode in two years of the census then had different added see every census since. I checked from 1841-1901. Most were located in great barford or surrounding towns. The men worked as labourers/farm labour/shoe maker while the women worked as lacers.
My great grandad (Jeremiah Lee) said to my grandad that we are gypsies/travellers however I'm struggling to find connection due to no records before 1841.
Was wondering if anyone could help or know anything?
Many Thanks,
Jamie lee
