I am researching an entry from the 1861 census for my gt.gt grandmother who lists Lee Bridge, Essex as the place of her birth. The 1891 census for the same lady gives Hackney as the birth place. Could they be one and the same ?
Thanks Doug

Hi
The River Lea runs through/by Hackney and there is a great long road called Lea Bridge Road in the area.

Actually, having just checked on streetmap there is an area (Hackney end of Lea Bridge Road), marked as Lea Bridge.

Thank you for the reply. Does (Did) the river Lea border Essex and Middlesex ? The 1891 census listed my ancestor as being born in Hackney, Middx. while the 1861 census said Lee Bridge, Essex.

There is a lot of info about the River Lea at this website
http://www.leevalley-online.co.uk/history.html
For a long time the East London stretch was a sorry mess from all kinds of pollution but improvements are being made.
Some of Lea Bridge Road came under Leyton which was part of Essex and some of it came under Hackney which was part of Middx

Hi, The old Essex border was on the Lea Bridge Road.
Lea Bridge Road runs from Clapton which was and still is in Hackney to Whipps Cross which was Leyton Essex but is now London Walthamstow.
