Edward Hanley & Mary Tracey
« on: Thursday 11 November 21 09:24 GMT (UK) »
I am really in the dark with this enquiry.

Edward Hanley & Mary Hanley are on the 1861c for Stockport,Cheshire RG09/2570/75
on the Census they have 6 children.
Edward is a School Teacher aged 56 & Mary Hanley is a Cotton Hand age 52.Both b.Ireland
The children: Julia 16,also born Ireland.Ann 13,Ellen 10,Margaret 7,Mary 4 & Winifred 1.All the children were born after Edward,Mary & daughter Julia moved to England.
There was also on that Census a Patrick Tracey aged 65 described as Brother in Law.So that is how I found Mary Hanleys nee name.
Margaret Hanley their daughter married James Kimber 23.10 1876 St Michaels Stockport. That is where the connection comes into our family.
In my searches I discovered that Edward & Marys daughter Julia Hanley never married & she was always connected closely with the Catholic Church.
In 1847 she was a Cloonadra Resident County Roscommon.Obviously she was only a child & that is why I think Edward Hanley & Mary Tracey come from that area of Ireland.
Julia Hanley was on the 1911c for Co.Durham & described as a Cook Domestic - Convent
Julia died in 1935 in Sunderland 10A 558.

I have nothing else to help me track back on this part of the family.Any help is appreciated

can you post some further details on this part - is this a baptism record ?

for reference - on Winifred's birth her mother's surname is recorded as Tracy

previous thread on this family

Based on details in the other thread it looks like that place and year of birth is based on the 1911  England census where a Julia Hanley is shown as a cook age 64 place of birth 'Cloondadra, Roscommon' - probably a  misspelling of Cloonaddra townland, a very specific location. Cloonaddra is in Cloontuskert civil parish so probably either Kilbride (Fourmilehouse) or Lanesborough/Rathcline catholic parish. Both are on the NLI site

I dont see any sign of a baptism for Julia or any sibling, or a promising marriage of Edward & Mary. There are parishes in the area that dont have records back far enough, e.g. Cloontuskert which is between the two parishes I mentioned, only has records back to 1865.

I don’t know if you have your family in 1851 but here they are

The visitor Maria ‘Onley’ may also be a Hanley.

The first couple of pages in the Cloontuskert baptism register include a note to the effect that "St. Mary's Church of the Holy Rosary, parish of Cloontuskert was commissioned in 1844 by rev. John Hanly, then P.P. and completed by his successor Rev. Peter Gormly in  1861.."
