Looking for the Surnames of Travelling People in Co. Sligo.
« on: Monday 29 November 21 14:49 GMT (UK) »

Hello everyone.

I have found so many surnames of my Ancestors going back as far as the late 1700's and am almost sure from what I have been told that there could be some family members who were either Travelling People, Gypsies or Tinkers, (perhaps they are all the same).

The areas I am interested in are Ballinafad, Brougher, Derrygolagh and Riverstown.

I would be very grateful for any help.

Thank you very much.

Liz

Hello,
I have some ancestors who were from sligo possibly Mount Sigo andKnocknahur  I am not sure of the correct spelling ,and I was told by ancestor they were "tinkers". They were either Dixon or Coleman. They moved to England around 1840 and settled in Knaresborough.
Johnson, Coleman, Graham, Dixon, Thewlis
