Catherine Armstrong census look up needed please
« on: Wednesday 01 December 21 09:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can help me find my x4 Great Grandmother on the 1861 and 1871 censuses as I am struggling!
Her name was Catherine Armstrong (nee Costello) born in Ireland in 1806.
In 1851, she was living with her Husband, John born 1798 in Ireland, in Harborne, Staffordshire.
Registration District:   Kings Norton
Sub-registration District:   Harborne
ED, institution, or vessel:   2c
Neighbors:   View others on page
Household Schedule Number:   122
Piece:   2050
Folio:   149
Page Number:   31
John was buried 23rd Feb 1859 in St Paul's, Birmingham, Warwickshire.
Their children were Elizabeth b. 1838, William b. 1841 and Mary Ann b. 1842.
I have tried looking for the family in 1861 but can't see them, the same for Catherine in 1871.
Catherine died in Aston in 1878. I have tried used Katherine and Kate as spellings and Arms* and I can find nothing!
Can anyone help?

There is a Mary Armstrong, 19yrs b Smethwick at 1861 2182/16/25. She is a servant in Aston.

Do you have an address and informant for Catherine’s death?

Hi,
No I haven't applied for Catherine's death certificate yet...it's sat in my basket at the GRO!

Which one of Catherine’s children is your ancestor? Do you have them in 1861/71?

Yes I found that too. No help though with Catherine.

I wondered if she was perhaps living with someone but then reverted to her married name.
I think the death certificate is needed in the hope that she didn’t die in the workhouse.

I got Catherine's death certificate back-she did indeed die in Aston workhouse Eddington in 1878  :'(
Is there a way to find her in the workhouse census?

That’s disappointing.

You might find something here. I read it that there aren’t detailed records but I have only skimmed over it.
