roman catholic marriage question
« on: Friday 10 December 21 22:56 GMT (UK) »
hi, Ive been researching family history and in one parish marriage cert in the "observations/comments" section it says "married by order of the parish priest". Ive never seen this before, would anyone have any idea what this means? no other marriages on this page have this.

link:
the marriage took place on 22 oct 1871, Thomas Quinn and Catherine Eades.

thanks!

might be relevant - the bride is noted as 'under age' on the civil record

yep - she wouldve been about 20 at the time, usually doesnt seem to be such a big problem though.

"Disp" was written in "Denunciationes" column. The comment in the last column may mean that the dispensation was issued by the parish priest and not by his diocesan superior.

Is it possible that the bride was pregnant?

it well could’ve been possible - it’s been hard trying to find the children they had as quinn is quite a common name and they move adresses a lot , the earliest child i have born for them is 1874, but more than likely there was one or two before that considering they married in 1871.

A great many marriages in the register had dispensations.
I looked at the comments column on other pages but couldn't decipher much.
