Name of a Beer House in Tilmastone, Kent
« on: Thursday 16 December 21 19:16 GMT (UK) »
Family Search 1861 records a John Cock (Cook?) daughter Saran Ann aged 9  and mother in law Mary Drayson at a Beer House, Lower Street, Tilmanstone, Kent.  John is recorded as an Ag Lab  and Retailer of Beer.

I wonder if more detailed census records the name of this Beer House?   I'm assuming the Beer House has long gone but wonder if any pictures of the pub still survive?

That’s all there is on the actual 1861 image

Surname is Cock - not Cook.  See daughters birth reg & 1842 marriage reg

The Plough and Harrow looks like the best bet, though it may not have had that name in 1861. In 1871 and 1881 it is quite close to Doves Corner, as was your man in 1861. See dover-kent.com for information on the pub (and every other one in the area!)

Could it be the white house on the left on the corner?  Added to over the years but has the correct amount of windows and I like the look of the roadside wall.  Not great images from  Street View.

I think you're right.  If you go a bit further along the street you can see that it is called Star House.

Oh WOW.  Thanks  for noticing bearcat.  dated 1790.  Lovely village.  Did you 'travel' down the lane and see the Chapel on the right?  Transported back in time.  Beautiful.
