Looking for parents for George Oldfield b 1869 Withington Lancashire .

Hi I’m looking for confirmation of parents / siblings for George Oldfield born 1869 Withington Lancashire, confirmed marriage to Emma Crossland, daughter of Thomas Crossland
I’m struggling to find any birth record or census record for 1871 for George Oldfield .Thanks for any help . Fred

George appears to be in the  Cholton Workhouse in 1881 but no obvious birth reg   Does the marriage cert name a father??

Hi yes he was in the workhouse aged approx 9. The marriage days his father was John Olfirld . Deceased . Joiner . George and Emma were married in Heckmondwike . In 1895 . Thanks , bye Fred ,

Working on the possibility that George's parents were unmarried and trees on Anc listing his birth as 10 July 1869 (from the 1939 Register?) I noticed this baptism

In reference to George Smith is the relevance to it being the only George  baptism in that time frame in that area . We have long suspected that John Oldfield may not be correct ( exist ) as I and many others have not found George Oldfield in the 1871 census … in the workhouse register his sponsor is also a George Oldfield . We are going to do another dna test concentrations on the Y chromosome and see if that will be a line back . Thank you for any help . Bye Fred .

In 1871 I also noticed a George Malone age 1 living with his grandfather John Oldfield and wife as below but he looks rather too young

Just found a birth of George Malone with mother Charlotte Malone on 10 July 1869 Chorlton/Withington Workhouse

Oh so would it be worth my while to search if Charlotte Malone was Charlotte Oldfield which would account for the grandfather name being Oldfield . I will do that . I am getting very excited here . This could well be why no one has found George OLDFIELD in 1871 census as a child .. and he could quite likely say his grandfather was his father on his marriage cert . Quite the coincidence , whoo hoo , getting quite over excited . Thank you Fred .

I suspect the Oldfields were the grandparents of George on his father's side and wondered whether Charlotte Malone was living in Withington in 1871 as below
